How Can You Leverage R&D Outsourcing to Sustain Growth?
3 min reading time

I read a valuable paper from ICON plc about hitting cost efficiencies while still achieving productivity and growth.

You can download it for free at http://medgroup.biz/ICONplc

Entitled “Achieving Challenging Mandates for Cost Savings and Pipeline Productivity,” they explain how medical device manufacturers are considering significant corporate cost saving programs, often requiring across-the-board cuts between 15 and 30%.

They cover six pain points you’ll likely face in your clinical development and offer five frameworks and best practices for outsourcing. (This was the most enlightening part of the study for me.)

The paper concludes with a guide how to select the best partner for you and explains how to use an advanced “design & execute” outsourcing model.

In sum, if new product development is a growth driver for you – and you need to be as efficient with your limited resources as possible – give this paper a read.

William, I agree, my mind boggles at the thought of outsourcing R&D whole cloth, but I think there are many aspects of R&D that can be and are frequently outsourced, such as verification and validation testing (some or all), and various types of consulting services.

Nathan Glass
VP of Product Development at MedTech Launch
Very few companies can really afford not to outsource R&D. Unless the company is structured in such a way to prevent subject matter experts from becoming burdened by continuous manufacturing, compliance, and quality related issues then R&D moves too slow to be useful.
Additionally, R&D is most successful when connecting several technologies in a new way to solve a well understood problem. Outsourcing allows you to take your user’s needs to someone who can leverage technologies you’ve never heard of in new ways.

Medical billing and patient engagement are keys to acceptance-every person has an emotional threshold to act, implantation-companies have a vested interest in immediate revenue streams, ideal feedback and referrals-if you don’t take the realtime feedback and get it back to the front line cycle analytics and sellers for addressing unknown challenges.

Whether it’s a startup or an existing large manufacturer of medical devices. Sometimes coming to us to help with all or parts of the development makes sense. It can get a product to Market faster and for Less cost. Whatever works best for the individual circumstance is the model that should be followed.

I agree with that. Not only the product development, but also the manufacturing process, such as prototyping, mold making, and even product production. Outsourcing professional company for particular work, you can cost less and get better result.
