Looking for Medical Device PLM recommendations
< 1 min reading time

We’re a small medical device (IVD) manufacturer and we’re trying to find a suitable PLM system to help us manage our device design and manufacturing.

We’ve already looked at Arena Solutions, Propel, Oracle Agile, and Upchain plus several others that don’t support small companies.

Can anyone recommend any other options for small companies?

You’ll want to ask @Joe Anderson, Vice President of the Institute for Process Excellence. He knows virtually every PLM player worth considering and we’ll likely have a PLM panel at one of our 10x Medical Device Conference events in 2019.

Hi Cheryl,

I would be happy to talk to you about PLM. Prior to selecting an IT solution we would want to review your functional capability requirements, supporting operating procedures, and your strategic vision for growth.

Or you could skip all the expense of a consultant and use Grand Avenue Software. It’s inexpensive, easy to set up, manage and grows with your business. Auditors love it as it shows them everything they want to see quickly and effortlessly. This is not an ERP system, but more a Regulatory and Quality documentation system that will cover your entire product lifecycle. The Design and Development module is perfect. There are 9 modules available, use as many as you need. Great support as well, they almost always answer you same day. You can host on your server or GAS will host for you.

Hi, Cheryl.

To echo Joe, what are your requirements? Specifically, what are you hoping a PLM will do for you?

Hi Cheryl,
I work for a small medical device company and we are in the process of implementing Omnify. Let me know if you’d like to talk about why we selected Omnify and how the process is going. Best Kris

@Jon Speer - we're looking for software that can manage a multi-level Bill of Materials for manufacturing of our device and attach pertinent files to the BoM, manage product configuration (physical and functional), allow our CMO to participate in workflows (eg, part dispositions) and integrate with an ERP.

Cheryl, that sounds like you intend to manage the BoM within the PLM and not the ERP? I've seen it done both ways (depending on multiple factors).
