Theranos under pressure. Your thoughts?
4 min reading time

Privately held Theranos, valued at $9 billion, got a one-two punch of FDA visit and negative WSJ coverage this week.

“This is what happens when you work to change things, and first they think you’re crazy, then they fight you and then all of a sudden you change the world,” Holmes said on CNBC.

Do you think this is just a story from competitors to discredit the company or is there more here?

Catching up on a backlog of biz journals, here’s more about Theranos and another of its “partners”…

Many people in the field have questions if not doubts about their core technology. They only need to show good data to prove the doubters wrong.

In my experience as a technology developer, if you have something that is faster, cheaper and better than the other guys, you tell EVERYBODY. You publish it and present at conferences. You can easily publish results, comparisons and correlations with the current standards and technology without giving away the details of how you did it. I have worked with spectral imaging technology for 25 years; every time somebody tells me they have a new method, I ask for data from spectral calibration standards. If I don;t get it (and often don;t), it is hard to take them seriously. How do I know it works without such data?

Michael, thanks much. If the moderator sees something that I or someone else posts which is spammy or promotion, I would consider it proper to let the poster know what the issue was/is. That’s the only way to improve things.

Bo…
I have not seen a similar notice regarding my posts on this thread. It troubles me that anyone would consider your contributions to be anything but relevant on this topic and that you require oversight.
Hmmmm?

Theranos is a great example of the power of a story with nothing to back it up…smoke and mirrors.

Michael and other posters here, I see a note at the top of this thread telling me “Your posts in this group are being moderated temporarily because members of this community marked your recent contributions as spam or not relevant.”

Now I don’t do spam or irrelevant posts, so I wonder what company’s personnel would consider what I wrote to be spammy content? I wonder what those persons are trying to do, such as to have my posts removed?

I wonder if I am the only “spammer” on this thread?

Seems you don’t have to look hard to catch Theranos in the media… This time re: personnel.

After contraction.. the Theranos Board of Directors grew by one very big reputation, too soon to know why.

No data. No peer-reviewed science. Can it work? You are indeed correct-micro fluidics is certainly known.

Can it work at a price and convenience point to displace big box systems? Well, if they “forgot” to put in a simple filing for a lousy blood container, and blatantly mid-represented their presence in the market, do you really believe this Steve Jobs wannabe?

I can spell it but won’t speak it. Theranos is dealing with blood diagnosis which is well understood. Theranos is trying to ‘shrink it down’ which is being done in a variety of ways by other companies with advanced micro-fluidics, so the task is already being done.

The question is can Theranos get all the tests done that they claim with a very small sample size.

And some additional news re: Theranos. Apparently the Board of Directors has been revamped in something of a hush hush way. Candidly, I have always found this a curious group. More here…

Back on Theranos’ issues it must resolve, the FDA pressure has become intense with latest inspections:

What if someone just wants comments on his company’s issued stopped and clicks spam?

Oops, I’ve posted 3 or more times on this subject.
